Drawing
Artforkidshub.com
This is one of my favorite online resources for follow along how to draw videos. They have videos of how to draw all sorts of different things, from animals to cartoons to food. They have videos for under 5, 5-8 and 8 and older so there is something age appropriate for all elementary students. I show these occasionally in class and students really enjoy them. One of my favorite things about this site is that it’s created by a family-the Dad draws and his 4 kids also draw with him. I think that seeing another child’s drawing that isn’t “perfect” helps build confidence. In the videos they usually draw with sharpie, but I always have students draw with pencil first.

Artists: Andy Goldsworthy, Richard Shilling
Land Art or Earth Art is when art is made using the landscape and objects found in nature to create sculptures and artwork. Land Artists arrange natural objects like leaves, sticks, rocks and ice into beautiful works of art. These artists don’t use glue or string to hold objects together, only what they can find in the environment. Land art can be made in your backyard, at the beach or in a park. You can watch a video clip of land artist Andy Goldsworthy creating at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7sZv4_0Fxg Richard Shilling has a website about Land Art specifically designed for kids. http://www.landartforkids.com/ if you want to see more examples and ideas.
How to make Land Art:
Collect materials. If you are at the beach you could collect pebbles, shells, seaweed or anything else you can find. In the woods collect leaves, pinecones, sticks, acorns. Collect things that are all the same color and make a pattern, line or shape. Make a spiral, a person or an animal. Try to stack items to make a tall sculpture. Line up rocks in a wavy long line. Make sure to take a picture of your creation!
